Description
Lead Hardware Engineer / Senior Hardware Design Engineer – Military Communications.
To provide the hardware expertise to the Radio Team in maintaining and enhancing and evolving the design, overcoming obsolescence and proposing design solutions to meet new emerging requirements.
Responsibilities – Hardware performance analysis and resolution of hardware issues. This will include working closely with the Customer engineering community. Oversee the procurement of a new Single board Computer. Design expertise and lead design investigations. Contribute to new product development. Obsolescence management.
Educational background required – Degree in an electronics or communications engineering discipline or equiv.
Experience required – Good post graduate experience in a hands-on development positions, working on original designs in a formal, quality controlled environment.
Knowledge of digital circuitry for single board computers, embedded processors, programmable logic, DSP and backplane technology is required. Experience gained in a defence or aerospace environment is a distinct advantage.
Knowledge required for the role – Essential – Single board computer and embedded processors. Backplane/motherboard bus technology. VHDL design and simulation. High speed Digital PCB layout. Digital Signal integrity. Built in Test. DFM principles.
Desirable skills – Switched Mode and linear Power Supply design. Software defined radio architecture. Voice and Data Radio communication protocols. PC104 ISA bus.
Personal Competencies – Methodical approach coupled with comprehensive and clear engineering records. Presentation of technical investigations clearly and concisely to management. The ability to communicate to engineering. Business Development. Customers and Management at an appropriate technical level.
Responsibilities/Supervisory – Supervisory experience, will be supervising RF Engineer and a Junior Hardware Engineers.
Additional information – Must be able to be security cleared to SC level.
