Description Supportability Engineer / ILS Engineer - Large Defence Communication Systems. Primary Purpose of the role - To plan, initiate, co-ordinate and implement Company ILS activities from proposal, through design, development, production and in-service phase ensuring that the Customer and Company requirements and needs are met within budget and programme as generally directed by the ILS Manager. Programmes values between £2M to £35M. Bid Support to all new proposals requiring ILS. Manages various sub contractors value circa £100K. You must be able to work on a number of different tasks simultaneously and switch rapidly between them. Self-motivated and able to work without guidance. Able to solve a wide variety of problems across the whole ILS the ILS disciplines taking into account the effect on cost, timescale and long-term support implications. Good leadership skills and ability to communicate at all levels within the company and customer organisations. Able to make presentations to customers and colleagues. The ability to tailor the requirements of ILS to individual proposals within the guidelines of ILS policy is of paramount importance. Key Tasks include - To implement short and medium term plans for the operation of ILS within the Company, to meet the growing needs of the business. Ensure that the ILS output of regular Project and Programme reviews meet the respective requirements of both the Customer and the needs of the Company. To perform integrated logistics support tasks (AR&M, Training, Human Factors, Through Life Costing, Logistic Support Analysis, Publications and Codification) within the Company as applicable to the needs of individual Programme/Projects. To perform Logistic Support Analysis leading to Logistic Support Analysis Records to agreed standards (MIL STANDARD/DEF-STAN) utilising specialist software packages, thus influencing the design of both in-house and bought-in equipment/systems ensuring that Customer requirements and the needs of the business are accommodated. To respond to Invitation to Tender for major procurement programmes and studies by ascertaining the full scope of the ILS work effort covering the tasking, durations and budgetary cost estimation and integrating the overall ILS response within Engineering, Commercial and Company Policies. Creation and maintenance of LSA records by utilising specialist LSAR computer database, preferably iLog, in accordance with agreed standards (DEF-STAN 00-60 MIL-STD_1388-1A/2B). To perform detailed analytic studies under the direction of the ILS manager to ensure that the support systems being developed meet or exceed the specified maintainability, availability and supportability requirements, recommending design changes as appropriate. Education & Qualifications -ILS/LSA competence. Knowledge and experience of MoD support policy. Understanding of large communications systems. Computer literature. Hands on use of ILS software packages computer literature. Working knowledge of DEF-STAN 00-60 and associated documentation. Programme Management skill ability. Ability to implement procedures and operate a LSAR database e.g. iLog. Good communications skills and team member. A good knowledge of system ARM and /or Safety engineering would be a distinct advantage. Salary £40K-£45K – Location – Crawley, West Sussex
