Test Automation Engineer
Abingdon
Up to £36,000 DOE Plus Bonus and Benefits
Trusted by 100 million users and endorsed by industry analysts, our client is a world leader in IT security and control solutions purpose-built for business, education, government organisations and service providers. They are currently looking to recruit a Test Automation Engineer.
In this role you will be responsible for improving the quality and reliability of company products by designing, developing and maintaining test automation systems, tools, and scripts. You will also support the Test and Development teams in their use.
As a Test Automation Engineer your main responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing use cases/product requirements/technical specifications to recommend automation scenarios/tools
- Writing functions/tools/scripts using the language and technology defined by the Test Lead/Manager
- Writing and using automated unit tests to validate the effectiveness of the function/tool/script
- Coordinating peer reviews of automation code and unit tests
- Running manual and automated test cases to ensure the automation is fit for purpose
- Debugging failures in your own tools/functions/scripts
- Submitting automated test tools/scripts to Test Lead for review and approval
- Based on own experience of operating systems, network structures, and virtual/physical environments proactively suggest appropriate test environments to be used for automation
- Working with the Test Lead define, document, and then follow an appropriate Configuration Management Plan for the code you create.
To succeed in this position you must be able to demonstrate the following:
- Writing test automation tools/functions using a high level programming language such as VB.NET or C#
- Knowledge of common scripting languages such as Python, Perl, Tcl, or MS DOS Batch
- Experience of testing your own code using unit and integration testing methodologies
- Knowledge of common operating systems and basic PC Networking
- Identifying and implementing process improvements for test efficiency
- Knowledge of the testing responsibilities and processes within the Software Development Lifecycle
- Use of Configuration Management tools to store and control source code
