Description Systems Architect – Defence Communications Crawley, Wes Sussex
Salary £50K - £60K + package
To develop architectures for complex networked military systems for the delivery of Network Enabled Capability (NEC) solutions to MoD’s. Projects sizes range from £150K - £100M.
You will work in a smallish highly focussed team of specialists and collaborate with other specialists in Europe.
Key tasks involve the development of innovative systems architectures the support the supply of NEC to the MOD. This will involve the analysis and identification of suitable choices of protocols for the control and management of heterogeneous networked RF systems across the HF/VHF/UHF/SHF and EHF bands. The identification and selection of candidate architectures across a range of communications networking and RF technologies. You will support bid preparations and business development in this area and provide technical briefings and presentations in both internal and external customers. The role will require the management of technical staff and subcontract with external suppliers and research organisations.
The successful architect will have a strong knowledge base within Communications and Networking systems and/or in complex military systems architectures.
You should have either:
• Extensive networked systems – TCP/IP protocol stack and associated protocols (SNMP, SMTP, UDP) and routing protocols such as OSPF
or • Expertise in HTML, UML, XML, CORBA and middleware for distributed processing
Or • Military networks, combat systems or tactical radio networking – modern tactical data links (Link 16)
You should have a proven track record in the design of complex system architectures containing a significant communications/networking element – preferably in a defence environment – and ideally within the maritime / maritime air domains – but alternatively in a mobile telecommunications environment. If in mobile telecoms then the knowledge base should be on the networking, routing and management aspects (rather than the RF layer).
