Description
Our client is a leading Truck manufacturer and they are seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer to work on a long term contract basis. Ideally a background in engine installation or chassis design would be preferred. Other automotive related experience will be considered. All work is carried out using SolidEdge, but they will consider other CAD packages and provide training on SolidEdge.
The Role:
To create/interpret specifications into cost effective functional designs and to provide company wide support for design implementation
Create and maintain Project Files inclusive of records of design calculations and assumptions, adherence to Company Standards (ISO 9000)
Work to industry and Engineering standards and practices
Concept, design and detailing of systems and components
Contribute/advise on relevant product testing activities
Typical work could involve:
Liaison with cooling system supplier on cooling system installation
Installation of exhaust system and associated pipework
Installation of air intake filter and associated pipework
Routing of engine wiring harnesses
Installation of auxiliary pumps and associated pipework
Requirements:
Proficient competent user of SolidEdge 2D/3D but other 3D CAD modelling experience will be considered
Working knowledge of regulations, British Standards and codes of practice relevant to the equipment being designed, Draughting practices to BS308/BS8888 desirable
Relevant experience in Powertrain installation specifically Engine installation
Able to work in a team and multi task environment and communicate effectively with external suppliers/customers
Demonstrable team skills as a member and a leader
Open, honest and timely reporting of tasks
Essential requirement to work without supervision to meet agreed deadlines in both team and individual activities
Ability to produce, maintain and control work breakdowns and timing programmes
Ability to produce designs within agreed cost, weight and performance targets
Ability to work without supervision to agreed timescales, budgets and constraints
