Description Mechanical Design Engineer / Marine Engineer – Steering Gear and Stabiliser Systems – Bristol – to £43,000
Candidates will need engineering design experience within a commercial / Naval marine environment to deliver fully integrated steering gear and stabiliser system designs to the level of maturity required for contract and completion of the ship design. Previous experience of managing sub-contractors in delivering engineering ship systems and equipment is also required for this role.
Working within a small team, the Mechanical / Marine Engineer will : • Support the integration of the steering gear and stabiliser system equipments into the ship, support system and compartment design reviews and provide day-to-day design support to the detailed design and shipbuild process. • Validate supplier deliverable design data and manage the population of data into the PDM/Windchill system • Provide technical support as required to the Propulsion & Manoeuvring technical lead in the system design, specification and technical validation of the Propulsion System. • Develop the steering gear and stabiliser system ship specifications and acceptance criteria. Develop detailed technical specifications and statements of work for the steering and stabilisers contract packs. • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with the steering and stabiliser systems supplier • Lead on the integration of the steering and stabiliser systems, and define and agree the interfaces and interactions with all interfacing aspects. • Develop specifications, review tenders and undertake detailed engineering design activities in support of bids and/or programmes. Qualified to degree level or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, applicants should have engineering design experience in marine engineering, a sound understanding of the technical issues relating to the integration of engineering systems within naval ships, as well as an awareness of current and emerging technologies. Experience of working on Naval contracts, including specifying and supporting the procurement process to select engineering systems and/or equipment.
