Description Digital Hardware Design Engineer – Communication Systems – FPGA, DSP, Sensors. Primary Purpose of the Role -To design and develop Digital hardware for advanced communication and sensor systems. Key Tasks – The Digital Hardware Designer will be responsible to the Programme Manager for the successful delivery of assigned work packages to agreed time scale and allocated budget. To design and develop digital electronics hardware for advanced communication and sensor systems. Responsibilities include: Design and development of High Speed digital electronics from customer specification. Design of DSP, FPGA, microprocessor, DAC, ADC and some analogue components to PCB level. Integration of designed hardware, software and firmware, Test and debugging of development and production hardware to achieve design function and performance. Technical & Professional skills - This is a demanding position requiring the following attributes: Practical experience of very complex, high speed digital electronics including DSP processors, microprocessors, FPGA’s, ADC & DAC’s. Current experience of modern digital techniques and devices. Reasonable experience of analogue electronics design. Understanding of the complete engineering R&D lifecycle processes. Must be a practical, focussed problem solver. Good communicator, remaining effective under pressure. Self-starter able to work alone or as part of a team. Use of Cadence schematic capture, PCB layout and FPGA tools preferred. Use of PC based office tools (MS Office, Project, Visio). Education & Qualifications – The Digital Hardware Designer requires a relevant degree (or equivalent experience)with proven, practical experience. Personality / Behaviours - Candidates will need to be self-starters, capable of working on own initiative, reliable and capable of working as part of a team. Candidates should be resourceful and proactive in performing activities requested to ensure adequate quality and timely delivery. Willingness / flexibility in support of activities at customer sites (e.g. in support of system definition and also system integration/acceptance). Candidates should be capable of preparing and presenting technical information to customers both verbally and in written report format. Additional Information - Must have or be able to obtain security clearance (SC minimum), Proven track record of innovation and “thinking outside the box” Keywords – DSP, FPGA, Digital, Hardware, Communications, Sensors.
