The Rotating Components team is one of four component centred multi-functional groups dedicated to delivery of quality, on-time, and cost effective designs. The responsibility for the components runs from initial concept, right through production, to eventual deletion. Team members include Engineering, Purchasing, Logistics and Manufacturing all with the common goal of quality excellence.
Components and Systems: Rotating Electrics including alternators, starter motors & battery optimization, Powertrain including crankshaft, con-rod, dampers, bearings, balancer & flywheels FEAD (Front End Auxiliary Drive) including belts, autotensioners, pulleys, fans & fan drive assembly Timing Case & Gears including engine timing gears, gear driven auxiliaries (hydraulic pumps & compressors), timing cases & covers
The Role:
An exciting opportunity exists for a Mechanical Development Engineer to work primarily within the Rotating Electrics Team but with opportunity to gain experience of the other components listed above
The responsibilities will include research, refining customer requirements, system optimisation, validation, creating validation standards, defining installation guidelines and supporting quality improvement activity on charging & starting systems
The role involves significant teamwork with the Engine Platform Team, other internal Component Teams, Global Purchasing, Applications Engineering, the Validation Team, Suppliers, Electronics and Machine Customers
Requirements:
Engineering Degree or relevant experience and demonstrated competency
Good understanding of component development and manufacturing processes
Experience leading activity with suppliers
Experience of validation testing and system optimisation
Experience of FMEA, APQP, 8D problem solving and electrics would be a benefit although training will be provided if required Awareness of engine and component test would also be beneficial
In addition to the above, you will be an excellent team player, enthusiastic and have strong values
The ability to work under pressure with different functional areas, internal and external customers and suppliers is a pre-requisite
