Description Supplier Development Engineer required for a global automotive supplier to support the Purchasing function in continuous improvement of supplier performance (including both raw material and production sub-contract suppliers). Support with cost down activity and materials development.
Responsibilities: • Undertake both Quality System and Process Audits of current and potential new suppliers as and when necessary. • Ensure that Quality Self Assessments are completed by suppliers on a regular basis. • Materials selection for NPI according to customer requirements. • Manage tooling and prototype parts activity as part of the NPI activity with Sub-contractors. • Participate in Contract Reviews. • Support with sourcing new materials for cost saving activities or product development enhancements. • Project Management of new materials introduction relating to new products, quality improvements or cost saving activity. • Communicate with suppliers to ensure they are aware of industry requirements and future market trends. • Be aware of automotive quality problem solving tools (G8D) to assist in materials related to quality concerns. • Understand automotive and electronic industry hazardous substance requirements to ensure we meet legal compliance requirements. • Provide NVH/Acoustics support to the business, including close liaison with Technical Centre/Acoustics Section. • Undertake appropriate cost reduction projects as specified by the Purchasing Manager. • Write appropriate Supplier Quality Procedures for both Environmental and Quality Accreditation purposes and support audits of both systems. • Some Direct Purchasing (e.g. materials) – in particular to support the source of materials in low cost countries.
Ideal candidate must have good experience of working within a Purchasing Dept both on buying and cost saving projects. High work ethic, travel flexibility, self-driven personality essential. First Tier automotive experience also beneficial.
