Description
Required to perform the full life cycle of mechanical engineering developments - concept through to production. Conceptual design & detail design using 3D CAD. Conducting stress (FEA) and thermal (CFD) analyses & assessments (manual calculation). To contribute to Mechanical Engineering Make Buy processes. Preparation of statements of work for mechanical subcontracted work. Working as part of a multi-disciplined team. Designing for cost and manufacturability.
Essential Skills:
- HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineer. Have knowledge & experience of FEA Stress analysis package.
- Experienced in the use of 3D CAD.
- Strong analytical skills.
- The ability to efficiently organize & co-ordinate their work with the ability to provide innovative solutions & to communicate them to peers.
Desirables Skills:
- Knowledge & experience of a thermal analysis package.
- Knowledge & experience in the use of Catia V5.
- Knowledge & experience in design to Mil Std.
- Able to work on own initiative within a busy Engineering department with the minimum of supervision.
Previous Experience:
Essential:
Knowledge and experience in the design of complex mechanical assemblies, machining, fabrications and castings and the selection of materials, fasteners and protective coatings. Analysis of mechanical tolerances. Fully conversant with concurrent engineering techniques. Knowledge and experience in the design of equipment to withstand shock and vibration.
An analytical and methodical approach to design work with sufficient commitment and drive to see the task through even when adverse conditions are encountered. Preparation of technical specifications for components and for subcontracted items including definition of outline control documentation. Product design from concept to manufacture.
Desirable:
Conceptual design and engineering of servo controlled machines/mechanisms. Experience of motion control systems and the selection and application of Motors, Bearings, Slip rings and Resolvers. Experience in the design of military Radar sitcom systems. Experience in cooling and heating techniques for RF/ electronic equipment. Experience of the design of weatherproof EMC/RF/EMP enclosures for harsh environments. Experience in the preparation of statements of work for mechanical subcontracted work. Experience in the design and routing of waveguides and antenna equipment. Experience of producing test specifications and procedures for military equipment. | | |
