They are committed to an expansion programme throughout 2008 and beyond that includes the acquisition of a wide range of engineering specialists within: Mechanical Engineering, CAE, Performance & Emissions, Electronics, Global Engine Development and Aftertreatment.
They require a Cost Engineer to work across business functions from within the Product support area, reporting to Cost Engineering Manager and directly influencing and driving the cost of manufacturing processes, new material content, both for NPI and current projects
The Role:
To provide dedicated cost management expertise and strategy development for product related initiatives driving target cost management
The main function will be to support New Product Introduction (NPI) programs and current product related initiatives, which require supplier/process selection, cost modelling or cost analysis
Utilising your costing expertise and knowledge to effectively cost manage a new product from concept through to production, working closely with Product Teams, Design Engineers, logistics, Purchase Specialists and Suppliers
To provide costing/process expertise at component and engine level
Identification and ownership of implementing cost reduction and avoidance opportunities
Engine feasibility studies and detailed cost modelling, for various design scenarios and product options
Managing the achievement of target costs through the influencing of Design Engineers, Buyers and suppliers
Managing cost management exercises at engine, system and component level
Develop and manage complete engine cost models in support of New Product Introduction projects and provide monthly reports to program Management and Finance
Requirements:
HNC/D (or Degree) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
Experience from a practical background, such as manufacturing component process planning & estimating or production engineering, supported by a sound commercial understanding is needed
The ideal candidate will have experience in automotive costing environment and suppliers, covering electronics and after-treatment as well as conventional components
An understanding of technical specification drawings and CAD models
Willing and enthusiastic to learn, with sound logical view to problem solving
An excellent communicator and influencer at all levels of the business, capable of self starting and finishing
Computer literate, especially Microsoft Excel, MS PowerPoint, Word documents and Microsoft Access
