Systems Engineer – Defence & Airport Systems
Farnham, Surrey
Salary c £28K - £40K
Global systems engineering consultancy currently requires an additional Systems Engineer to work in the Defence and Airport market sectors. The work will involve the application of systems engineering principles and techniques to support large scale projects in systems engineering, requirements management and systems assurance.
The consultancy assignments occur across all stages of the project lifecycle and span a variety of roles, including:
• research into systems engineering methods and their application;
• provision of targeted advice to clients relating to specific problems;
• wider ranging support to clients in the establishment of their own systems engineering practice and processes;
• undertaking specific systems engineering activities on behalf of clients.
The role is based in Farnham, Surrey but may require periods of working on-site with clients as an integrated member of a Project team. Most on-site working is within a daily commute of Farnham e.g. at Heathrow airport, but opportunities arise to work further a field, including Europe and beyond.
Systems Engineers will need to be degree qualified in a Numerate Discipline, ideally Systems Engineering/Software Engineering (or equivalent experience) - a higher degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage.
Knowledge and experience of the following is expected:
• Systems Engineering Methods – e.g. requirements management, systems architecture, architecture frameworks, system/technology maturity assessments, change/configuration management, test management, interface and assumptions management.
• Systems Assurance – e.g. auditing and review of user requirements, system specifications and designs, assessments of systems and software supplier capabilities with respect to processes, products, quality and programme adherence, software-hardware integration and acceptance testing.
• Systems Engineering and Requirements Management Tools and Techniques, such as DOORS (essential), and awareness of tools such as MODAF/DODAF, UML etc.
• Working within a coherent Systems and Software Assurance programme for a large integrated system comprising various suppliers equipment and software.
Desirable Requirements for the role:
• Knowledge or Airport/Defence systems and their operational environment.
• Broad knowledge of systems and software development and assessment standards.
• Experience in performing assessments of systems and software supplier capabilities with respect to processes, products, quality and programme adherence.
• Experience of 'systems of systems' issues and methods.
• Experience of secure systems methods.
• Experience in providing consultancy support and representing company interests at client sites.
All candidates must be in a position to obtain UK security clearance to SC level (additional restrictions may apply on certain defence programmes).
