Description Our client is one of the world’s foremost manufacturers of performance and motorsport brake and clutch systems; supplying and winning in F1, WRC, NASCAR, Indy Car, Touring Cars and GT racing, as well as engineering extreme solutions for several leading performance road car manufacturers.
The Role:
To design and develop foundation brake products to meet the customer requirements within the target timescales which is to be achieved through use of own engineering skills and by liaison with other team members, functions, suppliers and customer engineers
Operating in a team environment, to design and develop foundation brake components (calipers, discs) and assemblies that meet both performance and production efficiency criteria
To take responsibility for key brake design and development projects and to comply with customer requirements
To innovate in order to develop the company’s position as a front-running racing and high performance road brake manufacturer
Using 3D CAD software, to produce accurate solid models, component detail drawings, assembly drawings and customer installation drawings
To manage Engineering Change, Part Number, BOM and other business system data to ensure accurate control of product is maintained throughout the business
Using FEA software, to undertake stress analysis calculations
Within established guidelines, ensure that components designed are technically sound, robust and cost effective
To compile concise specifications for test, development and validation of components and assemblies
To monitor the total cost of components and assemblies in order to ensure the most cost effective production route is selected
To support the New Product Introduction process of a new product into manufacturing through liaison with other departments
To assist in component supplier search and selection
To provide technical support to sales, manufacturing, quality and suppliers
To support customers through provision of advice by telephone and, face-to-face meetings
Requirements:
Minimum HND in mechanical or manufacturing engineering, Degree in mechanical, automotive or manufacturing engineering preferable
3 years 3D CAD experience gained in the component industry
Demonstrable experience in designing CNC machined components, castings and forgings
SolidWorks experience including the use of Cosmos Works
Use and application of GD&T
Understanding of automotive applications and other aspects of vehicle design
Hands on design experience of brake and actuation components
Sufficiently commercially aware to recognize the impact of his actions on the bottom line
Experience of working within the Automotive industry and it systems
A high degree of self-motivation and ability to work under pressure when necessary
Working knowledge of D-FMEA, P-FMEA, DVP&R
A team player with a ‘can-do’ attitude, who can work at speed to achieve tight deadlines
Eloquent and outgoing, able to build strong relationships with suppliers and customer engineers and liaise on technical matters with other departments
Has the level of commitment to ‘go the extra mile’ when required
Ability to supervise work of other department members when necessary
