Safety Engineer / Systems Safety Engineer – Defence / Aerospace/ Air Traffic.
Job Summary - Our client has a number of new roles for Safety Engineers/Safety Consultants to join their growing team of Safety experts working within the Defence and Aerospace domains. Any experience of Airworthiness (Civil or Military), Maritime or Explosives safety would be an advantage.
The successful candidate will be required to carry out Safety Analysis, develop safety arguments for novel and complex systems and be able to clearly and concisely justify that argument to both internal and external customers.
The role is both technically and commercially challenging and the successful candidate will be expected to be able to work under their own guidance and interact with customers at all levels.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to be involved in the technical and commercial aspects of bid and tender documentation.
Personal Characteristics – The Systems Safety Engineers Safety Consultants will need: To be degree qualified (BEng or BSc (Hons) in an Engineering/Technical Discipline or have equivalent engineering experience. To have a good Engineering background and awareness of Defence, Aerospace or other relevant safety related sectors.
Successful candidates will:- Act as part of a team to deliver Safety deliverables to customers requirements. Be responsible for the quality of their own work in order to maintain the companies reputation as a provider of quality services. Coordinate and interface with customers to achieve the customers requirements under the guidance of a Project Manager. Have good verbal and written communication skills and be prepared to present the findings of Safety Analysis to both internal and external customers. Be able to write detailed technical reports.
Knowledge and experience of the following is expected:- The Safety Engineer / Safety Consultant will be familiar with Safety Legislation and Standards. Hazard Identification techniques such as HAZOPS, SWIFT, Functional Failure Analysis, etc. Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment techniques. Ability to create and maintain Hazard Log Databases. Ability to construct and document safety arguments using clear and concise language. Managing Safety programmes and implementing Safety Management Systems. Creation and maintenance of Safety Cases and Safety Case Reports, detailing the safety activities conducted, the level of Risk attained and the ALARP arguments developed.
Desirable Requirements for the role: - Experience of implementing safety legislation and standards. Experience of Hazard Identification techniques such as HAZOPS, SWIFT, Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), etc. Experience of Hazard Analysis techniques such as Fault Tree Analysis, Event Tree Analysis, Hazard Identification, Hazard Log management and Claim Argument Evidence Notations. Experience of the application of Human Factors techniques as applied to safety analysis would be an advantage. Independent Safety Auditing and Advising would additionally be beneficial. Experience of civil and military Airworthiness requirements. Completion of the SSMO Ship Safety Management Course. All candidates must be in a position to obtain UK security clearance to SC level (additional restrictions may apply on certain defence programmes).
