Our client leads the field in the design and manufacture of high-performance engines. They are committed to an expansion programme throughout 2008 and beyond that includes the acquisition of a wide range of engineering specialists within: Mechanical Engineering, CAE, Performance & Emissions, Electronics, Global Engine Development and Aftertreatment. Air systems - CPPD Team, is one of four component centred multi-functional groups dedicated to delivery of quality, on-time and cost-effective designs. The responsibility for the components runs from initial concept right through production to eventual deletion. Team members include Engineering, Purchasing, Logistics and Manufacturing all with the common goal of excellence.
The Role:
Components and Systems: Turbochargers and associated pipe work Exhaust Gas Recirculation Exhaust Manifolds Intake system Air Filtration
In addition to the above components the team is integrated with performance and emissions, research and Tier 4 concept teams in the pursuit of the optimum solutions for the next round of emissions legislation Work will focus on NPI (New Programme Introduction) activities and on the mechanical development of diesel engine air system components from prototype through to production level, across multiple Company engine families. This will be achieved through the close liaison with design colleagues, CAE, Performance & Emissions and NVH departments and through the planning and working-level management of experimental rig tests and dynamometer engine tests
You will be a self-starter with good attention to detail. Technical communication skills of a high standard are required, as you will regularly have to correspond with internal process partners and customers
You will have full responsibility for component/system functional specification documents, system and component DFMEAs, technical regulation documents, validation plans and design release and will manage suppliers technically to ensure the delivery of those components/systems to time, cost and quality
Knowledge of engine components and systems, specifically exhaust gas recirculation, turbochargers, exhaust manifolds, and air control devices will be of significant benefit
In addition to the above, you will be an excellent team player, enthusiastic and have strong values The ability to work under pressure and with different functional areas is a pre-requisite
Requirements:
Engineering Degree and demonstrated competency
Direct experience of engine and component development and test
Good understanding of mechanics and thermodynamics CAE tools (FEA and CFD) and how they are applied
Experience of 6-sigma, APQP, PPAP and 8D problem solving beneficial
