Description
An opportunity exists within the Marine Design department of a major UK defence company for a Senior or Principal Marine Design Engineers.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of specialist marine design to support the Submarine Platform and Future Business Development covering a number of submarine and surface ship components and related systems, in particular Submarine Steering and Diving Actuation Gear.
The role will include the following tasks:
Concept/Feasibility Design studies
Project development and assessment
Detailed design/development for ship/submarine systems
Definition of design requirements and specifications
Production and peer reviewing design calculations and analysis
Production and peer reviewing design reports
Design support for the generation of safety cases
Definition of acceptance requirements and evidence
Design support to production
Design support to vessel and system commissioning tests and trials
Ideally, must have knowledge of submarine and/or surface ship marine components and systems, with particular experience in some or all of the following areas:
Submarine Steering and Diving Actuation Gear
Surface Ship Rudder and Steering Gear
Ship and Submarine Shafting
However, candidates with experience in equivalent heavy equipment design for use in challenging and harsh environments would be welcome to apply.
The successful candidate will preferably be a Chartered Engineer, computer literate, and able to self-learn software packages e.g.; PROCON, MS Project.
Creative, Innovative and has the ability to think out of the box .
Team player that has a proven ability to achieve results and the drive to meet objectives and demanding schedules.
The ability to mentor and guide other professional and junior engineers, and co-ordinate the activities of other related professionals.
Excellent interpersonal skills and be able to communicate at all levels.
