Description Renishaw are currently seeking to hire a Senior Optical Engineer to work in the Spectroscopy Division. The successful applicant will be required to support existing optical and systems resources for new product development projects, specials, and continued engineering within the division.
KEY OUTPUTS AND DELIVERABLES:
• The definition and modelling of optical systems • Specifying, evaluating and testing components • System and sub-system testing • Close liaison with optical component suppliers, in order to develop specifications and to evaluate the theoretical and practical effects of new components on system performance. • Contributions to new product designs
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERTISE:
All applicants are required to have the following:
• A degree in physics, engineering or relevant scientific / numerate discipline
Although not essential, it would be desirable if applicants have the following:
• A strong physics background with an interest in optics • An MSc in Optics / Photonics • Some knowledge of optical modelling, preferably with Zemax • Familiarity with high level programming languages • Some expertise in Macro programming • Advanced spreadsheet use
A less senior individual could be considered and offered the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to fulfil the role where they have clear potential to do so.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
The successful applicant will be self motivated and able to work both on their own and within a team. The individual will also have good organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise and allocate time to meet the varying requirements of the business. Good problem solving skills, numeracy and computer literacy are essential while good communication skills would be advantageous.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING:
Training for use of Zemax would be offered if required (subject to line manager approval).

This role is based at our Old Town site at Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire.
