Description Renishaw are currently seeking to recruit a Senior Optics Engineer to work as part of our Group Engineering team. We are seeking an innovative electro-optics design engineer, who has the ability to develop their knowledge to solve problems and provide effective solutions in the development of key optical metrology projects. KEY OUTPUTS AND DELIVERABLES:
• Reporting directly to the Optical Systems group leader, the successful applicant will primarily perform the optical/electro-optic design function within a small multi-disciplined team working on proof of principle and development of a wide range of new high performance optical metrology products and sub-systems. • In addition to the optical design work, subject to the individual’s current knowledge and willingness to develop in these areas, there will be the opportunity for the successful applicant to apply multi-disciplined skills to provide software, electronics or data analysis to support and run the lab trials and evaluations. • Towards the latter stages of selected projects, the individual will provide technical support either to the Product Division which will ultimately market the product or directly with Production as appropriate. • Occasionally, the individual will work directly with the Product Divisions on current product developments either to provide optical design support or consultancy as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERTISE:
All applicants are required to have the following:
• A minimum of three A levels (or equivalent) at A – C grade including one science based subject. • Design level knowledge of visible optics components such as diode sources, compact lasers, bulk optics, modulators, isolators, diode detectors in addition to a solid appreciation of the design principles underlying at least some of the key optical metrology systems including encoder, interferometer, imaging, topography, tomography, spectrometry etc. • Familiarity with geometric optics, physical optics and optoelectronics to at least degree level.
Although not essential, it is desirable if applicants have the following:
• Qualification to degree level or higher (or equivalent) in physics or engineering • Knowledge of how to set up and use PCs to log and analyse both data and video.
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
The successful applicant will have an analytical mind, well suited to solving problems and researching new concepts. The individual will fundamentally be a team player, who will often need to work independently on specific tasks but have the ability to effectively interface and coordinate their efforts with that of the team. A hands-on approach to lab work, and confidence with designing, preparing and running trials and experiments, will be an advantage.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING:
This is a high profile role working on diverse projects aimed at developing new market opportunities for the Company. As such, maintaining a good awareness of emerging technologies is key and access to training and conferences will be provided as appropriate.
