Description
Information Security Engineer – IT/Communications
Somerset - could be based Berks, Middx, West Sussex
Salary c £35K - £60K + Bonus + relocation + benefits
The successful Information Security Engineer/ Consutlant will be responsible for developing security requirements, performing security architectural design and for the provision of security component implementation support to UK Defence and Government programmes. In addition the applicant will provide support to the accreditation and acceptance of the system. The security engineer should have a strong IT and/or communications background. Experience of working with Communication networks, SATCOM, Radio communication configurations and administration of IT systems (Microsoft and UNIX), with security aspects would be preferable. An understanding of the accreditation process, as described in JSP 440, HMG IS2 or BS 7799 is required. A good understanding of telecommunications, crypto systems, IT infrastructures and system security practices is desirable.
Key tasks would typically involve one or more of the following:
• Security threat analysis and requirement capture
• System architectural analysis and design
• Advising on systems to meet operational security requirements
• Work package estimation, planning and tracking
• Creation of security documentation
For the more senior roles providing day-to-day management of the tasks and activities of the security engineers would be required.
Candidates should have some of the following experience:
• BSc/MSc in relevant discipline (or equiv experience)
• Significant experience of working as a Systems Engineer on complex systems engineering projects in an Information Security specialist role
• Military experience in the Royal Corps of Signals as a Technical officer Telecommunications, Traffic Officer, Foreman of Signals or Yeoman of Signals.
• Military experience as an Officer / SNCO within the Royal Navy CIS branch
• Experience of the full design lifecycle
• General awareness of business and commercial issues
Candidates MUST be British nationals for security purposes, and be able to clear UK security.
