Description Summary of the role A Responsible Engineer within the Mechanical Engineering Compliance team providing design support on behalf of the AWE Facilities Design Authority. Expected to deliver design solutions, review design proposals and provide appropriate technical advice to projects and facilities within agreed time, cost and quality requirements.
Key accountabilities · To deliver work packages and design solutions that fully comply with all applicable current and foreseeable forthcoming Legislation, British Standards, AWE Design Standards and industry best practice · Undertake design tasks as allocated by Engineering Managers on a daily basis and deliver appropriate designs to agreed time, cost and quality requirements · Ensure adequate monitoring of mechanical engineering configuration changes on behalf of the Design Authority · Ensure quality of mechanical engineering and compliance with the project process and procedures · Carry out duties of the AWE Design Authority providing mechanical engineering support and advice as requested by the Head of Mechanical Engineering · Ensure the preparation and delivery of design solutions fully comply with all applicable Legislation, British Standards, AWE Standards and industry best practice and are to agreed time, cost and quality requirements · Ensure compliance, in all activities undertaken, with AWE requirements

Knowledge, Qualifications Experience & Skills · Undertaking engineering design, installation and maintenance requirements of a regulated site · Awareness of Construction Design Management (CDM), Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) · A minimum of HNC but preferably a degree in an Engineering discipline. Where the lower (HNC) qualification applies, also an Incorporated Engineer but for the higher qualification, the ability to attain Chartered Engineer status in the future will apply · The ability to undertake all necessary training to operate on a nuclear licensed site · Some experience in relevant multi-disciplined design, construction and management · Good interpersonal and communication skills · The ability to lead, manage and motivate staff · Good oral, written and presentational skills · Team working and leadership · Problem solving and decision making
Special Requirements · Able to work on a nuclear licensed site.
