Description
PSE Engineer
Supervise the specification, design and manufacture of Product Support Equipment (PSE) i.e. Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) and Tooling associated with the mechanical handling, testing and production of spacecraft (satellite) structures.
Duties will include liaison with the internal customer to understand PSE requirements, to provide estimates and expected schedules and thereafter to control the design, drawing, structural analysis, supplier selection, control of manufacturing reviews, acceptance testing and appropriate qualification test levels. This will involve close liaison with personnel from several engineering disciplines.
Provide technical documents, such as Operation Manuals, Safety Assessment Reports, Equipment Procurement specifications etc. and to determine the safety compliance requirements of hardware with respect to UK statutes, EC Directives and launch range safety requirements.
An awareness of safety issues must be demonstrated although training will be provided.
A good understanding of Drawing Office practices and procedures.
An understanding of aluminium fabrication techniques and treatments would be advantageous, though this can be achieved by training and experience.
A broad based general engineering background is required. Experience in mechanical handling could be beneficial.
A good understanding of the terminology associated with Structural Analysis.
A period of work experience commensurate with the above requirements, post qualification, within a general engineering environment is preferred. Experience with Aerospace MGSE/tooling design and manufacture would be an advantage
Essential: HNC in a Mechanical Engineering subject
Desirable: Honours degree in a Mechanical Engineering subject
Successful candidates will be required to be security cleared prior to appointment.
