Description Our client in Galway are now seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer.
Reporting to: Mechanical Design Project Team Member (PTM)
Job Specification and Responsibilities:
This is a key role within a professional, dynamic, international company. Day to day activities include supplier liaison, project meetings and 3D design work. Working within the Mechanical Design section of R&D, you will be responsible for delivery of quality products on time and within budget. You will often by the point of contact with our customer on concept-packaging issues, specific design queries and detailed technical discussions. You will also be responsible for presenting your designs internally and reporting competent answers/results to specific queries. As a Mechanical Design Engineer you will be involved in, and be responsible for, the conceptual design, prototyping, verification, development and initial tooling for your product. You must able to demonstrate an able competence to take the product into volume production.
Job Description: The successful candidate will join an experienced R&D team within the company The role involves the mechanical concept, design and development of complex electronic automotive components. The job calls for a high degree of innovation and creativity. The development of products in the automotive sector requires vigorous planning, testing and development. Therefore the candidate has to have enthusiasm, good communication, dedication and skill to achieve the accuracy and quality we need. Experience with standard design and development tools like DFMEA and DFM is necessary. Aside from a degree in Mechanical Engineering (or higher level qualification i.e. HNC/HND), combined with a minimum of 7 years relevant post qualification experience, the applicant must have previous experience using powerful 3D CAD tools, preferably Catia V5 and have a general knowledge of the auto industry or another highly regulated field. Many different manufacturing technologies are used in the development of our products so a broad experience in injection moulding, casting, metal forming, adhesives and prototype-manufacturing methods is a necessity. As we are an international company with customers and suppliers in all regions of the world, communication and travel can be expected, sometimes at short notice.
Additional Skills/Experience necessary for the role:
3D CAD preferably Catia V5 DFMEA techniques DFM/DFA Techniques BOM Creation and management Presentation Skills Working within quality systems i.e. TS16949 Relevant Mechanical Engineering Qualifications (HNC/HND/Degree level) Minimum 7 years relevant experience.
