Description Summary of the role To support the business in providing a high quality secure computing environment by providing and managing the provision of Linux system administration expertise to the business system community.
Key accountabilities · To act as Team Leader to a small group of six Linux and UNIX System Administrators · To manage the provision of Linux Operating system skills to the Business System community · To provide third level technical support to support Linux Operating Systems

Knowledge, Qualifications, Experience & Skills · Sound knowledge of UNIX or Linux system administration · Detailed knowledge of Red Hat Linux · Software development and maintenance using a language such as C, C++, Perl , Python and ksh · Understanding of TCP/IP and Ethernet networking · General understanding of technologies and concepts of Microsoft Windows desktop and server technologies · BSc or the equivalent qualification or experience in Computer Science, Maths, Science or Engineering is preferred · Full membership of the British Computer Society is preferred · Proven experience in supporting UNIX Server or Desktop systems · Experience of telephone helpdesk support, hands-on field engineering and fault analysis · Demonstrated ability to design and deliver a system to meet customer requirements · Management of small projects · Leading a specialist team in a matrix environment · Excellent computer literacy · Ability to communicate effectively at all levels and across disciplines · Understanding of user service provision · Design and documentation of computer projects · Ability to produce and maintain high quality documentation
Special Requirements · Willing to undertake occasional travel in the UK and overseas · Must be willing to work flexibly · Must be willing to occasionally work evenings and weekends as required
