Description Objective:
This is a new position within Chassis aimed at helping existing Engineers with their work load then moving on to having complete responsibility of their own components.
Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the job are the design, release, and test at component level of: - Power Train Mounts, Power Train Mount Brackets, and some Brake Components. Additional components may be added to this list following team work load reviews and candidate specific skills/interests.
The role will comprise: •Lead and support design activities for CAD Designers and detail drawings •Work with suppliers to design and develop components/systems to meet all specified requirements such as weight, cost, durability, and performance targets. •Analyse the suitability of ‘parts bin’ components and identify whether new or modified designs are required. •Manage suppliers to ensure parts are delivered to the appropriate quality standard at the right time. •Work closely with manufacturing to enable swift and accurate fitment of components to vehicle. •Release of all drawings. •Control of Design Verification and sign off reports. •Support vehicle tests with components where required. •Support TVM exercises •Provide designs and components for concept cars •Take part in FMEAS, P-Diagrams, and 8-D activities •Make sure FEA results meet target requirements, in all conditions As an additional part of this role the candidate may be required to represent Chassis as a Launch Engineer in an Austrian assembly plant for up to 9 months during the period January 2009 to September 2009.
Qualifications/Experience
•Engineering Degree or HND in appropriate discipline + minimum 2 years experience within an Automotive or Automotive Component supplier group. •Good understanding of the components listed in the Job Description •Genuine interest and basic knowledge of Chassis components and their effects on the vehicle •Experience of working with component manufactures •Understanding of the rig test environment •Some project management experience would be preferred •Have an understanding of FEA and an ability to constructively review the results
