Description This is a great opportunity for a purchasing officer to join a Public Sector organisation. The role is to cover maternity leave until April 2009.
Main Responsibilities
* Ensuring the supply of goods and services by means of placing and authorising purchase orders and assist managers in producing specifications for goods and services to be purchasing.
* Ensuring all supply contracts and purchase orders are placed in accordance with the relevant regulations.
* Ensuring operational, technical, budgetary and commercial aspects of any proposed purchase are considered before committing to the expenditure.
* Ensuring value for money is obtained from the suppliers, by inviting tenders or quotation, negotiation, and by exploring opportunities for purchasing.
* Assist the Head of Purchasing & Supply with the control of the department's budgets, by taking personal responsibility for the management of the designated supply budgets.
* Check & authorise payment of invoices using the appropriate computer and paper systems.
The successful candidate should be computer literate and have previous experience in a computer-based purchasing operation. They should be a full corporate member of CIPS or part qualified and willing to study towards the full corporate membership.
