Description Objective: To own the design and release of all Wheels and Tyres.
Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the job are the design, release, and test at component level of: - Wheels, Wheel/Tyre assemblies, Wheel centre Caps, Wheel nuts/bolts, Tyre Inflation Kit/Brackets, Wheel mounted traction devices, and some Tool Kits. Additional components may added to this list following team work load reviews The role will comprise: •Lead design activities for CAD Designers and detail drawings •Work with Suppliers to design and develop components/systems to meet all specified requirements such as weight, cost, durability, and performance targets. •Manage suppliers to ensure parts are delivered to the appropriate quality standard at the right time. •Take an active part in Supplier selection •Work closely with manufacturing to enable swift and accurate fitment of components to vehicle. •Release of all drawings. •Control of Design Verification and sign off reports. •Support vehicle tests with components where required. •Support TVM exercises •Supervise and support wheel envelope generation •Provide designs and components for concept and prototype cars •Work with Styling to produce engineering feasible new wheel designs at minimum weight •Review and keep up to date with new wheel and tyre technologies •Lead and take part in FMEAS, P-Diagrams, and 8-D activities •Make sure FEA results meet target requirements, in all conditions
Qualifications/Experience:
•Engineering Degree or HND in appropriate discipline + experience within an Automotive or Automotive Component supplier group. •Good working knowledge of the majority of the components listed in the Job Description •Experience of working with wheel manufactures and Styling to produce weight optimised wheels •Understanding of the rig test environment and experience of working with people in that area •Some project management experience would be preferred •Have an understanding of FEA and an ability to constructively review the results
