Description Principal Microwave Engineer Portsmouth £45k MSc In Microwave Physics (ideally) Strong team leadership & communication skills Understanding of the principles of amplifiers, oscillators, phase locked loops, filters and mixers. Good Understanding of Microwave Transmission line theory & design in micro-strip, strip-line and co-planar waveguide structures. Technical degree or diploma. Use of CAD/CAE tools, ADS in particular Appreciation of the relevant design drivers and associated manufacturing issues, for the space environment Key Figures: Work Package value typically up to 100kE. Job Outline As a principle engineer within the RF & Electronics Product Group you will be working within one of the most technically advanced RF and Microwave product groups within EADS. The RF&E designs & develops state of the art microwave payload equipments for telecommunications and earth observation spacecraft. These equipments are based on microwave hybrid technology using chip and wire concepts in both High Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (HTCC) and Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramic (LTCC). The equipments operate in frequency ranges from DC to 30GHz. The designs we produce include a wide range of microwave functions including; General Amplifiers Low Noise Amplifiers Voltage Controlled Oscillators Phase Locked Loops Mixers Filters (Micro-strip & Cavity) Voltage Regulators All designs are at the leading edge of space technology. As a principle engineer you will be expected to take technical responsibility as the responsible engineer for an equipment in which the above technologies and functions are included. Such equipments include; Low Noise Amplifiers Frequency Converters Frequency Generators Pre & Post Processors for digital processor payloads. As responsible engineer your job will require that you interface with and facilitate the concurrent engineering process. This will require optimising the design for both microwave performance and environmental performance (EMC, temperature, life, radiation) In all designs it is essential that cost and schedule are of equal importance to technical performance, in this regard successful candidates will also be aware of project management and commercial skills Main Responsibilities Design of Microwave Oscillators, Amplifiers and Mixers, using microwave hybrid LTCC and HTCC packaging technology.
