Description Senior Manager - Commercial Excellence & Supply Chain Best Practice To c. £ 85,000 + Executive Bonus + Major Benefits Package Relocation support where appropriate
Over the last five years BAA has been making major changes to its organisational structure which, coupled with ongoing major investment, will provide an environment for travellers & other airport business community stakeholders that is totally unrecognisable from the one inherited from a long history of State-Ownership. At Gatwick this investment and drive for excellence has particularly sharp focus, as the Airport prepares for its future as a stand-alone business... in open competition for growth and quality of experience & service. But this won’t simply involve newer, larger buildings and reinvented processes capable of handling more passengers and a few additional head office functions… it involves a commitment to profound cultural shifts across the business as a whole.
As a result of other changes made to support this strategy, a large proportion of Gatwick's management team has been attracted from other industries within the last 3 years, bringing ideas and approaches developed in World Class Manufacturing & Engineering organisations, Blue Chip Retail & Logistics companies, Consultancy & Service providers... as well as from other sectors where leadership talent & business performance improvement have also become embedded principles.
The organisational structure has evolved so each Terminal, the Airfield, and other linking Airport assets have become individual Business Units... each with its own dedicated General Management Team... supported by a newly-restructured Supply Chain and Procurement resource committed to achieving true commercial excellence both on a financial axis and in terms of developing effective strategic alliances & win/win partnerships within the end-to-end supply chain. This role, and another position reporting directly to it, have been created to provide the vision, know-how and maintained level of self-challenge essential to achieving this step change.
Working as the primary driver of this Best Practice Strategy within a restructured department, and working through colleagues in parallel roles heading dedicated Supplier Development and category-based Procurement teams, this is a commercially front-line, strategic role within an operationally complex and reputation-critical environment... and in the World’s 7th busiest Airport!
Interest is invited from degree-qualified candidates (Business/MBA) with expert knowledge of 'Commercial Excellence', of the application of optimised business models within complex supply chains (800 Suppliers, c. £390 Million Op & Capex), and with previous experience of leading successful change programmes where service, partnership and value are all important aspects of the overall cost equation. In addition, we are looking for strengths in the following areas…
Experience across functions relevant to an airport environment - Customer Service Operations, Engineering, Finance (P&L), Capital Projects etc. In-depth knowledge of modern cost control, estimating, negotiation and planning approaches. A natural influencer, with integrity, entrepreneurial flair, vision, and with the ability to both inspire and coach others. Able to analyse commercial value drivers, to focus on major impact opportunities, and to relentlessly focus on driving changes that reflect positively in both supplier service a | | |
