Component Engineer (Electronics)
£30000 to £35000 + package Lancashire

Overview of role:
Reporting to the General Manager for Design Development, the successful candidate will be responsible for component selection, as part of the new product introductions phase of product development. Progress selection of components, for both obsolete / engineering change in support of volume introduction and production at their manufacturing site.
Responsibilities
• Management of the electronic component library.
• Work with Development Engineers across all programs/projects for electronic component selection as the resident component expert.
• Take charge of reliability, testing and verification/validation of components.
• Review all requests for new electronic components, confirm part numbers and enforce standardised descriptions; ensure specifications are attached to part numbers.
• Develop strategies for the successful management of End of Life (EOL) and Product Change Notice (PCN) from electronic component vendors - coordinate with engineering and manufacturing to resolve issues and minimise production/schedule impact.
• Research latest technologies/components in line with development requirements.
• Coordinate failure analysis and corrective activities on electronic component parts.
• Support Engineering and Procurement to select, qualify, and implement alternate source components and new technologies.
• Assist with component commonality across programmes.
• Assist in identifying and consolidating duplicate components.
Skills and experience:
• 3 years of component engineering experience with strong knowledge of component selection, evaluation and qualification methods
• Engineering Degree or an additional 3 years experience in electronics procurement.
• Detail oriented and able to work independently and also as part of a team
• Familiarity and understanding of required standards
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment
• Experience with EE CAD tools is a major plus
Essential
• Must be PC literate, conversant with the use MS office incl. Project.
• Must be confident, articulate and able to deal with all levels in the organisation and with external customers.
• Must be able to manage difficult situations when under pressure.
• Able to identify potential risks or issues before they develop by the use of risk analysis and product/project review.
• Must be able to travel within the UK and internationally and hold a valid passport.
• Must legally be allowed to work and reside in the United Kingdom.
