The Qualification Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all Defence IT products are tested against a documented test procedure such that all products reach the customer on time, in a fully functional state that meets all the contractual requirements.
The role involves the preparation of test plans & procedures in accordance with the relevant customer requirements and MIL-STD's. Additionally, to perform EMC & Environmental Qualification Tests during the design and production stages of the equipment lifecycle using both internal test facilities and UKAS accredited test houses.
Responsibilities:
Advise on the EMC & Environmental design aspects of electronic circuitry. To encompass component specification / selection including technical liaison with suppliers as required.
Solve EMC & Environmental problems on prototype products.
Generate Qualification Test & ESS plans & procedures in accordance with the relevant project requirements and military standards.
Technical liaison with test houses and regulatory authorities
Perform EMC & Environmental testing of electronic equipment to determine compliance against the project requirements / military standards.
Carry out Electrical Safety Tests and formal product testing in support of the applicable Qualification testing.
Ensuring remedial and preventive action is taken following test failures.
Generate test reports and issue compliance certification where appropriate.
Maintain records of test results for all qualified products.
Perform and / or arrange the sub-contract maintenance (as applicable) of EMC & Environmental test facilities.
Optionally technical liaison with customers
Optionally technical specification and documentation writing
Optionally assessment of safety and legal aspects
Qualification criteria:
A suitable relevant academic qualification (e.g. but not confined to a degree or HNC in electronics or another engineering discipline)
Experience of EMC / Environmental testing and a proven track record of successful EMC problem solving on products.
Have a working knowledge of Monitors, PC systems, hardware and software. Able to use word processing, spread sheets and data base tools for analytical purposes.
Able to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels.
