MECHANICAL BUILDING SERVICES ENGINEER
NUCLEAR ENGINEERING
READING

We are seeking a Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join the Nuclear Engineering Group of this global consulting and engineering firm, based in Reading.

As Mechanical Building Services Engineer you will work within a dynamic project based environment focusing on delivering engineer and safety services, including engineering design evaluation/ substantiation, options studies, safety case preparation and analysis, ARM studies, and safety management appraisals; from concept through design, implementation, operation and decommissioning to their global client base

To succeed as Mechanical Building Services Engineer you should be able to carry out surveys of a wide variety of mechanical equipment and systems.

A thorough understanding of the following is required: Structures, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Machinery, Motors, Gearboxes and Drives, Cranes and Mechanical Handling Equipment, Simple electrical systems and Basic Metallurgy. In addition, you should have a detailed knowledge of at least one of the above. Experience in the nuclear industry would be of considerable advantage but experience in other high risk industries such as aerospace and railways would be equally applicable.

Experience of one or more of the following areas of work would be an advantage;
- Knowledge of the design of complex mechanical systems.
- Knowledge of the design of mechanical structures.
- Familiarisation with nuclear philosophies,
- Familiarisation with a wide range of both National and International Engineering Standards,
- Understanding of how design data is used to support safety cases,
- Understanding of the requirements of the COSHH Regulations,
- Preparation of method statements, safety assessments, risk assessments and hazard identification,
- Experience of the installation and commissioning of ventilation systems,
- Experience of the installation and commissioning of services such as heating systems, gas systems, vacuum systems etc.
- Familiarisation with the Pressure Systems Regulations.
- The ability to produce drawings on a CAD system, Autcad is used here, any 3D and/or FEMA would be advantageous.

To succeed as Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you must have experience of a building services industry related business or research, preferably within a nuclear or major hazard industry context. You should have an HNC, BSc or MSc in a relevant engineering or scientific subject and membership or equivalent experience of an appropriate professional institution as well as a proven track record of successful project delivery.

Due to the sensitive classification of the work these positions are available only to British subjects, either by birth or naturalisation.
