Description GERMAN-SPEAKING ELECTRO-MECHANICAL / ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN TOP RESEARCH INSTITUTION BASED HAMBURG
Our client is one of the world's top research institutions, dedicated to basic research in the molecular life sciences. They are now looking to recruit an Electro-Mechanical/Electronics Technician to join them at their integrated facility for structural biology at a new leading-edge synchrotron source in Hamburg. The post holder will participate in the electro-mechanical and electronics design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and maintenance of synchrotron beamline components, in particular of motion control and detection systems. Tasks will range from equipping, cabling and documenting electronic control cabinets to the layout of circuits and the participation in the prototyping of scientific instruments. You will work in an international team of technicians, engineers and scientists and will also support external visiting scientists.
The ideal applicant should have a certified apprenticeship or an equivalent qualification as electro-mechanical technician, electrician or a related discipline. In addition, you should have significant professional experience with hands-on knowledge with electronic positioning systems and familiarity with computer assisted design and assembly of analogue and digital electronic circuit boards is important. Experience with the programming of PLCs, instrument control programs like LabVIEW and with X-ray data acquisition systems will be considered as an advantage. Furthermore, the technician should have good communication and interpersonal skills and should be interested in working in an international, multidisciplinary research environment. The working language is English. Knowledge of German is required to be able to work with local suppliers and external collaborators.
An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.
