Description CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN CENTRE FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH GENEVA, SWITZERLAND
This company is one of the world?s largest and most respected centres for scientific research. They are now looking to recruit a Technician in construction and civil engineering to join their General Infrastructure Services Department which supports the infrastructure and provides the services needed to ensure the health and safety of all persons on the organization?s sites.
As the Civil Engineering Technician, you will assume responsibility for the coordination and supervision of maintenance, modification and renovation work in the field of buildings, roads and sanitation. This will involve proposing technical solutions in response to requests associated with the infrastructure consolidation programme or from any other in-house clients and participating in the relevant costing (deadlines and budgets). You will prepare work sites: draw up quotations and evaluate quotations received, placing orders for the performance of work and planning the detailed work phases in relation with their sub-contractors.
You will also organise the worksites in accordance with the established start of work procedures and supervise the performance of the work on site, including managing any unforeseen issues, organising regular work-site meetings, checking compliance with the applicable safety rules and, where necessary, coordinating work by other trades. You will be responsible for the acceptance of the finished work and verification of bills of quantities and invoices and for validating all follow-up documentation and documents relating to the completion of the work (e.g. revised bills of quantities, technical "as built" files, etc).
Furthermore, you will also ensure compliance with work specifications and deadlines and provide the competent services with information about the work done with a view to updating the CAMM system, the site and buildings drawings and data system and the guarantee management system. Where necessary, you will also supervise and check preventive and corrective maintenance work.
The successful candidate will require a higher technical diploma in construction or equivalent training associated with the building trade. Significant experience in the field of civil engineering and construction as well as solid knowledge of the building construction rules and methods, particularly relating to finishing work, roads and sanitation are also required. You will also need knowledge of Office Packages applications for Windows. Experience in the use of CAMM software would be an advantage. You will also need the ability to communicate in a French-speaking working environment, as well as a basic knowledge of English or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly. A driving license is also required.
