Description MECHANICAL DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER FOOD SORTING SOLUTIONS EAST LONDON
We are seeking a well-qualified Mechanical Development Engineer who will work with a multidisciplinary team to design and develop mechanical components and systems that meet agreed functional specifications. You will design, draw, test, and assemble the developed mechanical components and systems, whilst adhering to agreed standards, e.g. BS8888 (incorporates BS308) and ISO9001: 2000 and will be responsible for the design and development on specific projects and ensuring that the project is delivered within an agreed cost and timetable.
As Mechanical Development Engineer you will also produce mechanical 3D models, detail component, and assembly drawings using an appropriate CAD, conduct feasibility studies and evaluate designs with respect to their failure modes, ease of assembly, cost, and design safety (risk) and, if required, use finite element analysis tools to verify designs prior to manufacture. This role will also involve providing support and advice to internal customers and departments as well as managing assigned design change requests and enhancements.
To succeed as Mechanical Development Engineer you should ideally have a good degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or closely related courses with some experience working with multidisciplinary teams, to design and develop mechanical components and systems, within the research/development department of a commercial company.
Experience of low to medium volume product development for industrial applications, with a proven track record of delivering cost effective design work to agreed timescales is also essential.
Although not essential, some experience designing sheet metal welded fabrications and precision machined components as well as knowledge of plastic injection moulding, aluminium extrusion design and pneumatic systems would be advantageous. Similarly any experience of using a leading CAD package to produce 3D models, detail component drawings, and assembly drawings and experience of hygienic design and an understanding of suitable materials, manufacturing techniques and assembly principles for the food or pharmaceutical industry would be desirable.
Also desirable is an understanding of FMEA, Design For Manual Assembly, and Value Analysis Value Engineering techniques and familiarity with FEA tools.
