Description MECHANICAL DESIGN / DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER OIL & GAS INDUSTRY NEAR CARDIFF
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design/Development Engineer to join a small and friendly Technology Department based near Cardiff in South Wales. This company is a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of precision, innovative downhole electromechanical data acquisition instrumentation for the worldwide oil and gas industry. Their products are used to measure of flow, pressure, temperature and other parameters within the well bore.
As Mechanical Design/Development Engineer you will undertake the mechanical product design, development and support from cradle to grave of high-precision, high-temperature electro-mechanical instrumentation for use in oil and gas well data acquisition. Your responsibilities will include conceptual mechanical design to internal/client specifications; compiling Technical Proposal & Specification documents and 3-D modelling and design using Pro-Engineer. You will perform stress and pressure calculations; FEA, FMEA, DFM; liaise with electronics design engineers to establish packaging restraints and create and update high quality engineering drawings to BS8888.
As Mechanical Design/ Development Engineer, you will design test schedules and plans for new products, perform analysis of field failures and propose remedial action and compilation of mechanical sections of product operations and maintenance manuals. You will also maintain accurate BOM?s and the overall part numbering system (MRP/ERP) as well as undertaking environmental testing of new product designs.
To succeed as Mechanical Design/ Development Engineer you will be qualified to at least HNC level or equivalent and hold experience in a similar role including Pro-Engineer, 2001i onwards, solid modeling; AutoCad (for 2D drafting) and high pressure seals, pressure vessels and fluid dynamics. Problem solving / concept design skills; experience of mechanical trouble-shooting for new product development; small, precision mechanism modeling is also necessary.
Highly developed organisational and project management skills as well as English and verbal communication skills are essential for this position. Experience of limits and fit, tolerances, geometric tolerances; materials specification and selection; drawing office practice / BS8888; knowledge of machine shop practice and manufacturing techniques as well as FEA, DFM, FMEA are also required.
