Description MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN ? HIGH POWER RF SYSTEMS CENTRE FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH GENEVA, SWIZERLAND
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Technician to join the Radio Frequency Group which is responsible for the accelerating systems of all the accelerators. These systems are based on RF technology, covering frequency ranges from a few MHz up to several GHz. The group specializes in the design and construction of accelerating cavities, high power RF amplifiers and electronic feedback and control systems.
The Mechanical Technician role will be focusing on the final and largest accelerator in the accelerator chain and you will be part of the team which is responsible for the RF Power Systems. You will participate in maintaining the existing 200 and 800MHz RF power systems in optimal operating condition, will construct prototype equipment for tests of a completely new replacement power amplifiers for the 800MHz high power system and will develop and construct components for the upgrade of the 200 MHz RF power system.
You will also participate in installation and commissioning of the new equipment and systems and, in addition, will assist in the activities of the RF power team on the operation and maintenance of other RF power systems and cavities.
To succeed as Mechanical Technician ? High Power RF Systems, you should be qualified to Higher Technical Diploma level in Mechanics or equivalent with Mechanical skills and knowledge corresponding to those needed for the construction of RF amplifier units, coaxial and waveguide systems and RF components. You should also have knowledge of or ability to learn the particular electrical, HV and RF requirements influencing the design and operation of such equipment.
You should have a strong sense of responsibility and initiative, the ability to work effectively either independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary team and must speak fluent English or French with a willingness to acquire a basic knowledge of the other language.
All positions are offered on a limited-duration contract for a period of five years. Subject to certain conditions, holders of limited-duration contracts may be granted an indefinite contract.
