Corus Group Plc is the second largest steel producer in Europe with an annual crude steel capacity of 20 million tonnes and major manufacturing sites in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, France and Belgium. Corus employs around 37,000 in over 40 countries.
As part of the Projects and Technology management team, the principal purpose of the position is to provide and direct a complete professional engineering capability together with a mechanical and structural technical/design service to LPB (Long Products Business) and other Corus sites.
Among other responsibilities, you will establish and direct policy for P&T. Acting as the reference authority for engineering and mechanical design matters you will provide LPB and other Corus sites with an engineering resource to identify and resolve major mechanical engineering and operational problems impacting on the performance and profitability of the Business.
The duties of this role involve directing and controlling the management of the P&T engineering and technical resources to meet the requirements of the approved capital plan, capital projects, major maintenance/revenue schemes. You will also be required to provide and direct a works engineering support resource to achieve plant improvements and to ensure the effective implementation of assigned major maintenance and revenue schemes.
The successful candidates will advise and liaise with Senior and Works management to develop the major maintenance and revenue plans, as well as directing and controlling the preparation of soundly based, innovative, least cost solutions to achieve operational improvements and financial benefits.
You will also ensure that designated responsibilities under COMAH regulations are implemented and applied within area of responsibility, and validate engineering proposals, estimated costs, programmes and strategies for submission to works business management for implementation.
Qualifications/Experience/Personal Qualities:
Our ideal candidate will possess the ability to manage and direct a team of professional engineers employed to manage all aspects of mechanical, structural, civil engineering and design work.
You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in an engineering discipline, with preferred membership of the appropriate professional institution and management training to MBA/Diploma level. In addition, you will have proven experience in handling multi-disciplined resources and a large task portfolio, together with a broad knowledge of the steel business and a working knowledge of contracting and engineering activities.
A full driving licence is essential as this role involves travelling to other Corus sites.
