Our client is the second largest steel producer in Europe with an annual crude steel capacity of 20 million tonnes and major manufacturing sites in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, France and Belgium.

In this role, you will control and direct a group of engineers who are involved in the investigation, development, design, procurement and implementation of a number of civil and structural engineering projects associated with the installation of new plant, and modification/maintenance of existing plant relating to all activities of the Business at Scunthorpe, and from time to time at other sites.

You will be ensuring that project proposals, designs and specifications meet the technical, cost and timing requirements of the capital investment plan, plant improvements and maintenance programmes.

You will assist and advise on the assignment of project engineers or site engineers to specific projects and support these engineers throughout the full life cycle of the project.

You will act as a mentor to other civil/structural engineers in the department and also as a delegate engineer for civil/structural engineering graduates training under the ICE approved training scheme.

You will be liaising with local authorities with regard building regulation approvals and planning permission concerning new buildings and alterations to existing buildings. You will also have responsibility for ensuring that all civil and structural engineering facilities, provided throughout the Business are established in accord with the standards and appropriate legislative bodies concerning their design, safe construction and suitability for the purpose intended.

Qualifications/Experience/Personal Qualities:

You will be educated to degree standard in civil/structural engineering and hold Chartered membership of either the Institute of Civil Engineers or the Institute of Structural Engineers.

You will be able to demonstrate your proven ability as a designer, either in the steel industry or other heavy industries incorporating your knowledge in relation to reinforced concrete, structural steelwork, brickwork, timber, site investigations, drainage and roads.

You will have managed a team of civil/structural engineers and have knowledge of contracts used to procure civil engineering works. Contract negotiation skills are essential.
