Our client is the second largest steel producer in Europe with an annual crude steel capacity of 20 million tonnes and major manufacturing sites in the UK, Netherlands, Germany, France and Belgium. They employ around 37,000 in over 40 countries.
Working in an environment that can have a direct effect on all production departments on the works can be demanding and rewarding. The Fuel Department needs to provide fuel engineering support over a wide range of fuel related activities. The responsibilities include addressing safety, quality and energy performance issues on specified fuel systems and fuel consuming units.
The role of the Process Fuel Engineer is to work within an assigned area of the Fuel Department, to ensure the energy consumption is monitored and to analyse and report areas of concern or where improvements can be made with appropriate recommendations.
You will need to be flexible and have an ability to undertake supervisory roles of both internal staff and contractor personnel.
Knowledge of coke oven gas, BOS gas and blast furnace gas systems, and their interactions with fuel consuming units is an advantage. Fuel consuming units will include reheating furnaces and soaking pits in the mills area, boilers in the power plant area and stoves in the blast furnace area.
You must also be self-motivated, innovative be capable of developing detailed process knowledge of the plant and equipment in the assigned area seeking continuous improvement. You will be expected to work unsupervised.
Working knowledge of Approved Codes of Practice relating to fuel systems is required. Also an understanding of health and safety principles, including process safety and knowledge of relevant statutory legislation is critical to this area of expertise as you will be responsible for isolating fuel systems and issuing permits as appropriate.
You should also have good communication and people management skills as you may be expected, on occasion, to deputise for the Area Fuel Engineer as required.
Ideally you will be qualified to degree / HNC level or equivalent in Chemical / Process Engineering, or an Energy related discipline and will possess experience in the Fuel Department or equivalent.
